Street Stylin in Brooklyn

When I saw these leggings at BCBG, I just had to have them.  Effortless to dress up or down, this formfitting legging is paneled in stretch ponte and finished with a flattering high-rise and flexible waistband.

Generally I am hesitant to wear leggings because I’m so short and feel like I can’t pull them off but I tried these babies on and was really happy with the way they look.  Shop this look below by clicking on the links.  Cheers!

One of my favorite things about fall is over the knee boots.  Like who doesn’t love a these? My problem is that I’m short and finding a pair that compliments my petite frame can be a challenge. So when I found these OTK black leather boots at ALDO, I almost did a cart-wheel in the store! Well, maybe not but that’s not the point . These are by far the most comfortable boots I’ve found so far, the heel is only about 2 inches and its wide so you don’t kill your feet walking everywhere.

My second favorite part of this outfit is my True Religion Casey skinny jeans.  I am so in love with these that I own them in every wash. They are the perfect fit and make my butt look I’ve been doing squats all day, everyday.  So if you don’t own a pair, go grab some and fall in love with Casey.

Ok can we please talk about this Chanel backpack? I’ve had this bag for about a year now and talk about trendy.  I love how the straps are half chain link and the size is perfect, especially for travel. I generally use this bag when I fly cause I can fit snack and all my essentials. This style is no longer available but you can find one similar in the link below.

Fun Fact Friday

I decided to start something new on my InstaGram.  Every friday I’m going to post a fun and interesting fact about myself.  Todays fact is:

I am a retired Army Master Sergeant.  Yes, ME!

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “you were in the Army? You don’t look old enough to be retired!” I’d be rich!!!!

mombeararmy

I signed up for the army in 1997, when I was 17. They were offering to pay for my college education. I wasn’t concerned about the possibility of going to war; I just kept thinking, I’m going to a bad ass soldier.

My first MOS (military occupational specialty ) was 92Y Unit Supply Specialist, which is  logistics and small arms.  My duties were pretty simple, I would receive, inspect, conduct inventories, load, issue, deliver and turn-in organization and installation supplies and equipment. I would also issue and receive small arms. Secure and control weapons and ammunition in security areas. Schedule and perform preventive and organizational maintenance on weapons.

I then transitioned over to 46Q Public Affairs Specialist.  I was taking photography in college at the time so it just made sense to get some experience.  I did a lot of research, prepared and disseminated news releases, articles, web-based material and photographs on Army personnel and activities.

I loved being an Army photographer but my true calling came on that dreadful day that no american will ever forget, 9/11.  I’ll never forget that phone call I got from my unit commander that morning just moments after the first tower was struck. I was 5 months pregnant with my daughter Jaedon.  He needed me to report immediately because the media was already hounding and we needed to start researching all the facts in order to give accurate information out to our troops. I was then tasked to cover any training and or responses by our State WMD-CST (Weapons of Mass Destruction- Civil Support Team).  I guess you could say that I became infatuated with how our nation wanted to do more to protect its citizens against the growing threat of chemical and biological terrorism. I kept saying to myself, this is what I want to do. Five months after my daughter was born I was tasked to the 64th WMD-CST and do a unit history story.  I won’t lie, I was so excited! I spent the next two weeks photographing their training  and exercises.  By the end of my assignment I was convinced that this was my calling.  I immediately requested a transfer and off to Chemical school I went.  I spent the next nine years with an amazing team that provided DoD’s unique expertise and capabilities to assist state governors in preparing for and responding to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) incidents as part of a state’s emergency response structure.

In addition to working with the WMD team, I was also assigned to our State’s Counter Narcotics unit working with law enforcement agencies and community based organizations, has performed interdiction and anti-drug activities in the fight against illicit drugs.

My final years were spent as a Senior Human Resources Sergeant / platoon sergeant and Joint Substance abuse coordinator. I guess you could say I had a successful career and I will forever be grateful for the education, travel, friendships and benefits that the Army has provided me with.

It’s all in the details

I gotta admit that when it comes to accessories I prefer to keep it simple.  I love the classic pieces by Chanel and Im definitely a sucker for Skagen watches.  I’m guilty of owning at least 15-20 of them.

Meanwhile in Long Island

Hello Long Island, New York!

Upon my arrival in Long Island I was blown away by the beautiful beach, not to mention the cuties running along the boardwalk. Long Island Beaches are world-renowned for their fine white sand, spectacular waves, miles of board walks, beach trails, restaurants, picnic areas, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Of all the fun activities in Long Island, New York, spending a day on the shore was at the top of my list.

Beaches there are popular vacation destinations for those who love to swim, fish, kayak, surf and scuba dive–you’ll never tire of all the things to do on Long Island. And I heard that two of their beaches were ranked number one in Dr. Beach’s Top Ten Beaches list, you’re sure to be impressed with what they have to offer.

Where I stayed:  Allegria Hotel

This hotel is supposed to be Long Island’s only luxury oceanfront hotel, However I wasnt impressed.  Although, The decor and ambiance was definitely on point, I can’t say the same about their customer service. For example, check in is at 4pm, we arrived at 3:30 and they made us wait till exactly 4.  The room presentation was lovely, but if you wanted the air on you had to leave the curtains open otherwise they blocked the flow of the air.

Moving on…The resturaunt only served a buffet style breakfast which is not ideal if you only want a bowl of oatmeal or a simple bagel. Lastly,  I’ll close with a positive note…the lounge was amazing and so were the drinks and appetizers and when it came time to relax, we slipped away to the rooftop pool and enjoyed the view.
